Window on the World

This weekend I went to a cultural exhibit/festival in Tennessee called "Window on the World." It's the first time I've ever gone, and it was a really fun experience! There was a lot of good food, dancing, and different "countries" (booths that represented countries) to visit that had crafts and hand-made things to buy.

When you get the W.O.W., you are given a passport that you take with you to every booth you visit.

When you get to a country (booth), you get a stamp that represents that country. It's just a fun way to keep track of where you've been.

Here a man that speaks/writes Swahili wrote my name, Amanda, in the Swahili language. My name in Swahili is "Amenda", so there's not a big difference from English to Swahili.

Here my name is written in Chinese. I love how intricate Chinese letters look. It's very cool how the Chinese write up and down. I asked the woman writing if Chinese always write up and down, and she said it depends. So lesson is, Chinese can be written up and down or side to side.

Here my name is written in Japanese. It's amazing how Japanese people write, because they don't write every letter, they only write the words how it sounds, like the syllables. The lady writing my name said that when Japanese write, spelling really doesn't matter, because words and written how the sound. Amazing right?

A tiny globe key-chain I got for 25 cents. Necessary? No. But it's tiny and adorable. :)

A free badge I got from a booth that talked about preserving wildlife and saving animals. "Think Pig" badges were among many others like "Fish Farm" and "Think Green".

Here is the only thing I bought. A beautiful beaded necklace that was hand-made. I can't remember which country it was from, but the booth was covered in hand-crafted, colorful necklaces. Mine cost only 6 dollars! What a bargain! :)

I loved this cultural experience. For anyone who is interested in going next year, google some information. It's called "Window on the World" and is in Tennessee. It's fun and admission is free and the prices on everything are reasonable if not extremely well-priced and cheap. Check it out!
