DIY Beachy Belt (Inspired by Free People)

Don't you love this simple and pretty belt by Free People? It's so earthy and perfect for the beach!

Close-up!

For this DIY you will need only a few things: Raffia, beads and seashells, feathers, and scissors.
*good place to get fake feathers for crafts is your local craft store. I got a pack of three feathers for $1.99.

This belt is so simple, so I will just give you a list of the easy steps to make it.
1) First, cut three strands of raffia in equal lengths. Make it long enough to wrap around your waist, plus about 6 inches so you can tie it. Braid these three strands together.
2) Once the main part of the belt is braided and tied, you need to cut 3 more strands (all equal in length) for one of your dangling strands of your belt. Braid the three strands together, gradually braiding in seashells and beads. Attach one of your feathers to the end by either tying them together or using hot glue to keep them together.
3) Repeat step 2, cutting three strands of raffia (all equal in length) but make them all a bit shorter than the strands you made in step 2. Finish making the braid the same way you did in step 2, attaching beads, shells, and a feather.
4) Now tie both of your decorated strands on one end of your main belt that goes around your waist. Leave about 3 inches of slack on that same end, so that you can still tie your belt closed around your waist.
5) Now you are done! Just tie it around your waist and wear your new belt over jeans, a maxi skirt, a beach/sun dress, etc. Have fun!

Remember, this doesn't have to be the end! Make more belts, all with different shells, beads, and feathers. Make some for gifts, or just make a selection for you to choose from to match every outfit!
