Last night snow blew in from the north and over my town, covering the ground with uncountable numbers of snowflakes, all very different in appearance. Everyone knows that no two flakes of snow look the same, but have you ever actually looked closely at one? The delicate design is so complex, and so beautiful. It amazes me how the world can create such intricate details in such a tiny thing.
Today because of the snow school is cancelled, so I decided to re-read The Giver for the 2nd time since I last read it when I was in 6th grade. For anyone who's read it, I'm sure you remember the scene where the Giver transmits a memory of snow and sledding down a hill to the boy, Jonas. The way the author Lois Lowry writes about the nostalgic memories many of us have of snow makes me think again about life; how much we take color, sight, smell, feelings, and differences for granted.
If you haven't read The Giver by Lois Lowry, it's a great read for any snowy day. :)
