Quinceanera in 10 Photos

Here's me wearing my dress, jewelry and heels on the day of the quinceanera.

My dad took this picture at such a weird angle so that it made me look huge and my dog look like a mouse. haha, reminds me of Alice in Wonderland somehow...guess it's the blue dress? :)

Food! The meal was really good. It was mashed potatoes, some kind of cheasy noodle type thing, and tender chicken covered in a spicy sauce. Even though it wasn't a full-blown authentic mexican buffet, it was still pretty tasty!

Then started the cultural dances. My friend, the one having the quinceanera, and her dancers. (the group of 6 boy dancers have a name in spanish, but I can't remember what it was or how to spell it)

"Miss quince" dancing with her closest family members.

It probably took a giant bedazzler to decorate this ball gown!

"Miss quince" doing a traditional mexican dance. The boy she danced with had a giant sombrero, and Miss quince was wearing a very traditional dancing skirt, blouse, and had to wear a braided wig tied with ribbon. All of these events have an important meaning to them.

Then Miss quince and her 6 "dancing boys"-I'm going to call them, started the party by dancing to some techno. Yes, this has been a more modern add-on to today's quinceaneras. :)

Then the lights went out and the disco ball and strobe lights went on. The music was a mix of techno, modern pop and rap, and traditional mexican dancing music. Then a friend of mine from school who was one of Miss quince's "dancing boys" taught me how to dance a certain mexican dance. You step forward three times then back three times with a partner. It was a lot of fun and he says I did pretty good!

Going to my friend's quinceanera was such an amazing experience, and probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance, considering no one in my family has any hispanic heritage. I'm so happy that I was given this opportunity and I hope you all (my readers) enjoy having a little taste of the exciting mexican culture as well. :)

Have a great Sunday!
